Meet The Wolrd’s First Foldable & Stretchable Smartphone
In the world of folding smartphones, there is nothing scribbled, as we have the South Korean giant Samsung, who has temporarily postponed the launch of its Galaxy Fold smartphone. After the South Korean big Samsung, the well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer, of course, Huawei continues with its plans to launch the Mate X next June, and the Chinese company FlexPai, who has been marketing its folding smartphone since the end of 2018. So far, these are the only companies with folding smartphones in the market in the short term. Still, there is an infinity of promises and different designs for the future of folding smartphones, and the most exciting thing is that the last one we just met is capable of stretching to get bigger as well. For the moment, it is a concept in the form of a patent and a computerized render that you can see below in the video, but the company states that it will soon become a reality. If the project can be carried out, it would undoubtedly be another step in the concept of a foldable smartphone that is yet to be born and further increases the possibilities of interaction since the device would offer a different use when it is deployed since it could be even more significant. However, according to the company and as it shows in the video, the folded device has 5 inches of screen. When deployed, a 6.5-inch panel is obtained, but when “stretched,” it is transformed into a larger screen with a diagonal of 8.9-inches. This triplet of sizes could make the dreams of many users come true, as it would already have a size that many yearn for, the size of current smartphones, and a third option that covers the tablet standard. The company even fantasizes about converting its mobile into a kind of laptop, thanks to one of the folded parts that would act as a touch keyboard and the top of the screen.
However, here the fact is that it is hazardous to predict the success or failure of this market since it is still early to know how the first folding mobile smartphones will welcome users. It is also difficult to believe that a similar patent can become a reality in the short term since we have not seen functional prototypes of mobile panels capable of stretching like chewing gum.
