Facebook has also announced another major change that will only show news from high-quality, trustworthy sources on user’s news feed. However, Facebook is not taking the help of AI-powered system to eliminate sites that spread fake news. Facebook has chosen to go the old school way and conduct public surveys to detect high-quality and trustworthy news sources. Mark Zuckerberg wrote “This update will not change the amount of news you see on Facebook. It will only shift the balance of news you see towards sources that are determined to be trusted by the community” The survey asks users whether they’re familiar with the news source and if they are trustable or not. Facebook’s major goal is to find out whether the news source is trusted by its followers & regular readers, or the source is considered trustworthy by other people also. According to the reports from Buzzfeed, Facebook asks two-question survey:

Do you recognize the following websites? (Choices: Yes or No) How much do you trust each of these domains? (Choices: Entirely, A lot, Somewhat, Barely, Not at all)

So, it looks like this is another step taken by social networking giant Facebook to eliminate fake news from its platform. However, is it a well-thought decision to rely on crowd-funded data to eliminate fake news? Looking at the fact that Facebook has played a key role in affecting US elections.
